The perfect time to include a Math & Movement activity is when there is a lull in the classroom, students are staring off into space, or you’ve said “pay attention” for the tenth time.
If you continue with content when students are not mentally prepared, they will not process the new information. When you encourage a quick Math & Movement break and engage students in a movement-based activity, they have a better chance of learning.
The next time students are having a difficult time staying focused, try another option: “Stand up everyone. It’s time for The Nine’s Twist!”
Reflect: Write a phrase or activity you can implement in place of “pay attention.”
